Arnold "Arnie" Junior Salyers

Arnold "Arnie" Junior Salyers, 76, of Mansfield, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2010, following a sudden illness.

Arnie was born May 2, 1934 in Louisa, Kentucky to Sherman and Dora (Ramey) Salyers. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Arnie enjoyed fishing and boating and spending time with his family.

He is survived by one son, Terry Bradford of Texas; three granddaughters; one great-grandson; and five siblings, Ruth Barrett, Clyde Salyers, Pauline Heidecker, Earl Salyers, and Edward "Lee" Salyers all of Mansfield.

Along with his parents, Arnie was preceded in death by one daughter, Darla Kay Salyers; and three sisters, Dorothy Salyers, Blanche York, and Christine Smith.

The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD, was honored to serve the Salyer family.

 

 

James Mitchell Lambert, Jr.

James Mitchell Lambert, Jr., 46, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, September 3, 2010 at Ohio State University Hospital Ross Heart Center.

James was born April 25, 1964 in Mansfield to James Mitchell and Mary Etta (Cooper) Lambert, Sr. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his two granddaughters, whom he called "Paw Paw’s Girls". He also enjoyed fishing, NASCAR racing, boxing, taking care of his dogs, and mowing the lawn.

He is survived by two children, Stephanie Nichols and Joshua Lambert both of Mansfield; two brothers, Gary Lambert of Springfield and Kevin (Cathy) Lambert of Shiloh; two grandchildren, Madalene and Alexis Nichols; ex-wife and friend, Michelle Lambert; nieces, Kara, Kassie, Ashley, and Mary Jo; nephew, Gary Michael; and great-nephews, Carson and Trent.

James was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh.

 

 

Danny Knight Sturgis

Danny Knight Sturgis, 62, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2010 at his home following an extended illness.

Danny was born December 1, 1947 in Ashland to Ralph and Janice Marie (Rose) Sturgis. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Viet Nam Era, had worked as a steward for CWA Union Local 708, and had retired from Stone Container. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching golf on TV, and going on long trips.

He is survived by two daughters, Sondra and Wesley Kuhn and April and Ron Gilbert all of Mansfield; three step-children, Kimberly McNeely, Ronald Welty and Terri Gibson, and Michael and Jennifer Welty all of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Alexis, David, Faith, Cameron, Chloe, and Corey; five step-grandchildren, Tiffany, Keeli, Meleah, Jaiden, and Kayelynn; four siblings, Jay Mark (Jennifer) Sturgis of Ashland, Ross (Teresa) Sturgis of Rogers, Arkansas, Paula (Ken) Glover of Mansfield, and Terry (Bob) Edwards of Bellville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his first wife, Debra Hanna Sturgis; his second wife, Bonnie Edmond Sturgis; and one sister, Sue Peacock.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD., 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. A memorial graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 at Mansfield Memorial Park with full military honors performed by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.

 

 

Teresa L. Hayes Kegley

                         

Teresa L. Hayes Kegley, 50, of Mansfield, passed away Friday, August 13, 2010 at her home following a courageous fight against a brief illness.

Teresa was born on November 11, 1959 in Mansfield to Bob and Maxine L. Hayes. She worked in Telecommunications for over 20 years and enjoyed fishing, shopping, gardening, watching Nascar and all types of old cars and racing. She especially loved to spend time with her family and friends.

She is survived by three children, Jennifer Kegley, Clifford A. Hamm, and Rodney Carroll; one grandchild, Dustin L. Fritz "The Great One"; her father, Bob Dale Hayes; four siblings, Debra Kiley, Rhonda King, Bobby Hayes, Jr., and Jimmy Ray Hayes; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Teresa was preceded in death by her mother, Maxine L. Hayes; and maternal grandparents, Emery Conn Sr. and Dorthea L. Conn Newton.

Calling hours will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Clifford E. Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.

 

Ronald "Big Ron" Lee Mitchell

Ronald "Big Ron" Lee Mitchell, 53, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following an extended illness.

Ron was born August 16, 1956 in Columbus to Albert Andrew and Mary Evelyn (Becker) Mitchell. On April 22, 1978, he married Shirley Ann Scott and enjoyed working on, buying selling, and trading cars.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Mitchell; six siblings, Betty Thompson of Mansfield, Robert and Marilyn Patterson of Marion, Lottie J. and Joseph Click of Galion, Ruth and John L. Browning of Wharncliffe, West Virginia, Nora and Bill Riner of Shelbyville, Tennessee, and Georgie Dotterer of Tennessee; one step-son, Phil and Julie Scott of Mansfield; two step-grandchildren, David and Sarah Scott of Mansfield; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; and beloved dog, "Sadie".

Along with his parents, Ronald was preceded by one brother, Albert E. Mitchell.

Daniel E. Thomas

Daniel E. Thomas, 58, passed away Sunday, August, 8, 2010 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a sudden illness.

Daniel was born March 27, 1952 in Mansfield to Earl and Doris (Reeder) Thomas. He was a 1970 graduate of Madison High School and married his sweetheart, Melinda Switzer on June 20, 1981. He was an employee of Autozone, a member of Mansfield Baptist Temple, and enjoyed riding motorcycles, storytelling and joking with friends and family. Daniel especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Along with his wife, Melinda Thomas, he is survived by his mother, Doris Rupanovic; four children, LeeAnn Thomas of Findley, Shane (Tina) Byerly of Loudonville, Brian Thomas and his fiancé, Andrea Ray of Mansfield, and Amy Thomas of Perrysville; five grandchildren; three brothers, James (Sandra) Thomas of Mansfield, David (Nancy) Thomas of Lucas, and Michael (Bobbi) Thomas of Mansfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws.

Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Earl Thomas; step-father, Anton Rupanovic; and mother-in-law, Joyce Switzer.

Edgar "Robbie" Robertson

Edgar "Robbie" Robertson,79, of Tiro, passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at Triumph Hospital following a short illness.

Edgar was born November 20, 1930 in Ft. Gay, West Virginia to Edgar and Mona (Thompson) Robertson. Edgar worked for 39 years at Empire Detroit Steel retiring in 1990. Edgar enjoyed fishing, gardening, Cleveland Indians baseball, bowling, camping, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Along with his loving wife of over 61 years, Edna Scott Robertson, he is survived by three children, Dianne (Roy) Carroll of Mansfield, Donna (John) Atwell of Texas, and Gary (Christine) Robertson of Perrysville; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three siblings, Paul (Christine) Robertson and Dallas (Irene) Robertson all of Ft. Gay, West Virginia, and Darlene Sluss of Pritchard, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lanny Robertson and Ted Robertson; and one sister, Judy Adkins.

Catherine E. Stocker Cavin

Catherine E. Stocker Cavin, 84,of Wooster, devoted wife and mother, departed her earthly body on July 30, 2010.

Catherine was born on October 18, 1925, in Mansfield, Ohio to Dallas Stocker and Mabel Stocker Hassinger. She was a life-time member of the First Christian Church and a graduate of Mansfield Sr. High School. She was a great cook and enjoyed making jellies, pickled red beets, and green tomato relish. Her custard and pecan pies will be sorely missed by family and friends. She is survived by her loving daughter Jana K. Brown and daughter Terri (Tom) Balser; beloved grandson, Jason McElvain; great-grandsons, Parker and Grady McElvain; brother-in-law Lee (Gene) Cavin; and a niece and cousins. She also leaves behind her three life-long friends, Beverly, Evelyn, and Vivian.

Along with her parents, Duke and Mabel Hassinger Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dana F. Cavin, and several dear cousins.

Raymond "Pops" Leroy Taylor, Sr.

Former Director of MANSFIELD OUTREACH MISSION, Raymond "Pops" Leroy Taylor, Sr., 86, of Mansfield, went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 30, 2010 at his home following a short illness.

Raymond was born June 9, 1924 in Mt. Vernon to Clarence Boag and Ada Pearl (Norris) Taylor. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, had retired from Empire Detroit Steel Mill, and was a member of the Steel Worker’s Union. Raymond was the former director of MANSFIELD OUTREACH MISSION, where he touched many lives, conducted services at the mission, and assisted with Sunday afternoon services at Crystal Care of Mansfield. He loved to sing and enjoyed fishing and playing Bingo.

He is survived by his beloved companion, Betty Garver; four children, Raymond and Jonelle Taylor of Orville, Barb and Lawrance Smith of Mansfield, Sharon and Steve Kyler of Bellville, and Gary Taylor of Ashland; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Taylor and Donald Taylor; two sisters, Ruthann Schoenstra and Norma Jean Cole; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

Along with his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Louise Taylor; his beautiful daughter, Shirley Cassity; his loving daughter-in-law, Lucy Taylor; four brothers, Archie Taylor, Virgil Taylor, Whitey Taylor, and Dean Taylor; and sister, Florence Zickfoose.

Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2010 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday 3, 2010 at the funeral home, with calling hours one hour prior. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery with full military honors performed by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.

Ronald Lee Gilbert, Sr.

Ronald Lee Gilbert, Sr., 64, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Ronald was born August 17, 1945 in Ashland to David and Kathleen (Zehner) Gilbert. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Viet Nam Era and had worked for over 30 years at Crane Plumbing. Ronald enjoyed fishing in his younger years, and had a passion for traveling all over Ohio.

He is survived by three children, Ronald Lee (April) Gilbert, Jr and Kimberly Sue Gilbert Stiltner both of Mansfield, and Randal Lee Gilbert of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and two brothers, David Martin (Cheryl) Gilbert of Mifflin and Richard "Dick" (Bev) Gilbert of Florida. .

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be held at Mansfield Cemetery on Thursday, August, 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Burnom officiating. Richland County Joint Burial Detail will do military honors.

Harold E. Jones

Harold E. Jones, 85, of Ashland, went to be with his Lord and Saviour, Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Triumph Hospital, Mansfield, following a brief illness.

Harold was born May 3, 1925 to Harley and Gladys (Cross) Jones. On August 31, 1948, he married the love of his life, Eileen Mellick, with whom he shared 61 years of life together. Harold at one time worked for the Association of the Eastern Railroad, was a realtor, and had sold insurance for a number of years. He also worked for a time with Werner Funeral Services as the friendly man at the door. Harold had a sweet spirit, and his love for his Lord was evident with the work that he did in the Gideon ministry. He had a passion to reach out to those without Christ and share the gospel with them. He was a faithful member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Hayesville and loved his church family. Harold will be missed by his family and friends, but we rejoice that he is now with his Saviour.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen; four children, Marvin (Dyann) Jones of Toledo, Myron (Pauline) Jones of Maryland, Marilyn (David) Kudika of Mansfield, and Mary (Joseph) Nass of Berne, Indiana; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three brothers, Roger Jones of Ashland, Carl Jones of Dalton, and Clifford (Ellen) Jones of Jeromesville.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents.

Private graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2010 in Vermillion Cemetery, Hayesville, with Pastor Todd Grover and Pastor Joseph Nass (his son-in-law) officiating. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Maranatha Baptist Church, Rt. 30A, Hayesville.

 

 

Martha Caroline Keller Burton Jessee Smith - "Carol Jessee"

Martha Caroline Keller Burton Jessee Smith, also known as "Carol Jessee", 75, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Liberty Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Martha was born April 12, 1935 in Mansfield, to Harry Lewis Keller and Charlotte Belle Klass Rosenbaum. She worked at various factories, most recently at Essex Wire Industries and Thermodisc, attended First Assemblies of God and All Believers in Christ Church, and was a member of the VFW. Martha babysat for numerous families and was famous for cooking big family meals, having won ribbons at the Ohio State Fair for her food and was even on TV for her cooking skills. Bingo was her passion and she enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting, and 500 Rummy. She also liked to sing to her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Janet Hendrix, Melissa Nida, and Mona Lisa Besco all of Mansfield; and one son, Asa (Christal) Jessee of Dennison, Texas; six beloved grandchildren; nine beloved great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; one sister, Patricia Kuelling Dalton of Mansfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Along with her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her adopted father, Emil Luka Kuelling; one brother, Emil Kuelling, Jr.; three sisters, LaDonna Kuelling, Margaret "Peggy" Hall, and Barbara Potter; and one step-brother, David Livingston.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2010 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Friends will be received one hour prior to the memorial service. A private family graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

 

 

 

Patricia L. Lockner Allen

Patricia L. Lockner Allen, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 23, 2010, at Mansfield Memorial Homes.

Patricia was born on June 16, 1937 in Odenton, Maryland to Calvin and Minnie (Greene) Lockner, Sr. She enjoyed coloring, painting, fishing, and frequenting the Bingo Hall.

She is survived by three sons, Cheyenne J. (Karen) Bolden of Newark, Jesse J. (Mari) Bolden and Clayton Y. (Carole) Bolden, all of Mansfield; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Delores Dilgard of Mansfield.

Along with her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her first husband, James Ronnie Bolden; her second husband, Amel Allen; one brother, Calvin Lockner, II; one sister, Joan Oursler; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Real Life Community Church, 670 Kentucky Avenue, Mansfield, with Pastor Mark Otero officiating.

Ray Lee Vaughn

Ray Lee Vaughn, 83, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010 at his home following an extended illness.

Ray was born April 18, 1927 in Webb City, Missouri to Lloyd Scott and Gertrude Virginia (Slate) Vaughn. He had retired after thirty plus years from Richland Shale Brick. Ray enjoyed walking, jogging, having jogged to Bellville when he was 62 years old, planting vegetable and flower gardens, collecting cars, and working.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Vaughn; one daughter, Pamela and Michael Ryan of Mansfield; two grandchildren, Michelle Martin and Michael A. Ryan; two great grandchildren, Phillip Martin, III and Natalie Ryan; one brother, Jerry Vaughn of Oklahoma; and one sister, Helen Harper of Arkansas.

Along with his parents, Ray was preceded in death by four brothers, William Vaughn, Harley Vaughn, Lloyd Vaughn, Jr., Harold Vaughn; and one infant brother.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in Mansfield Cemetery with Pastor Craig Staley officiating.

Patricia Ann Fortney Bartram

                         

Patricia Ann Fortney Bartram, 69, of Loudonville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 12, 2010 at Cleveland Clinic following a four year battle with cancer.

Patricia was born at home in Butler on October 5, 1940 to Lowell and Wynona (Myers) Fortney. She lived many years in Mansfield and graduated from Mansfield Senior High in 1958. On August 25, 1962, she married the love of her life, Darell Keith Bartram, whom she first met in the 5th grade, and since 1964 they have lived in the Loudonville and Perrysville areas.

Pat has been a Christian for 45 years, a musician, Sunday School teacher, prayer warrior, and a member of Lighthouse Chapel in Lucas, where she had been the piano player for the past 35 years. Music was her life long passion. She was blessed with the gift of musical talent, and had won a scholarship to Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She played in the band at school, could play many different instruments, and had taught many people how to play instruments, including her kids and grandkids. Pat played and sang for a gospel group for numerous years, was active in her church, and pointed people to Jesus Christ.

Pat loved her family and was active and involved in their lives. She enjoyed fishing with her family, loved going to her son’s races at Lakeville every Friday night, and loved watching and cheering her grandchildren on as they played sports. She was a very loving grandma and great grandma who loved her grandchildren, and will be sadly missed by them.

Along with her husband, Pat is survived by two children, Coby & Bev Bartram and Debra & Michael McClure all of Loudonville; nine grandchildren, Keith, Nathan, and Jacob Bartram, Aaron Williams, Heather Gentle, Jennifer Bumbalough, Tyler, Tim, and Mark McClure; one great grandson, Sean Gentle; one sister, Carol Layton of Perrysville; and two special "adopted" grandchildren, Somer Grasser and Sam Kim.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Bobby Fortney.

Jacqueline Bernice Greiber McQuillen

Jacqueline Bernice Greiber McQuillen, 70, of Mansfield, passed away at her home on Sunday, July 11, 2010 following a lengthly illness.

Jacqueline was born January 23, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Elmer and Eleanor (Kwaitkowski) McQuillen. She married Harold McQuillen on January 25, 1957 and worked as a self-employed accountant. She attended St. Peter’s Catholic Church and enjoyed doing crafts, reading, fishing, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Along with her husband of 53 years, she is survived by three sons, John (Wendy) McQuillen of Mansfield, Jeff (Traci) McQuillen of Lexington, and Jerry (Patty) of Milwaukee, WI; three step-children, Gary McQuillen of Mansfield, Connie Lotfi of England, and Judy (Gary) Button of Mississippi; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Don Greiber of California; three sisters-in-law, Eileen Mihalick of Berea, Billie (Byron) Urie of Greenwich, and Kay Scodova of Mansfield; and one brother-in-law, Ed McQuillen of Mansfield.

Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Mansfield.

Donald Albert Bettac

Donald Albert Bettac, 88, of Mansfield, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Donald was born October 15, 1921 in Plymouth to Chester and Helen (Myers) Bettac. He was a 1939 graduate of Plymouth High School and a graduate of Bliss College in Columbus. Donald proudly served his country as a B-17 pilot in the U.S. 8th AirForce stationed in England during WWII and completed 28 missions over Germany. He was a former manager of Ashland County Landmark, worked a number of years as Accounting manager with Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Co. in Ashland, and retired from Ashland Chemical in 1988. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Helen Jean Covert Bettac; five sons, John and Teresa Bettac of Columbus; Kenneth Bettac of Ashland, Larry and Susan Bettac of Portland, Oregon, Richard Bettac of Pickerington, and Gary Bettac of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; one step-son, Eric and Sheryl Ricer of Mifflin; one step-daughter, Brenda and Fred Jessop of Mansfield; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; two brothers, Joe and Aggie Bettac of Willard and Gene and Eleanore Bettac of Shelby; and two sisters, Pat and Martin Elminger and Jeannette Compton of Arizona.

Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by one brother, Ted Bettac and one sister, Delores Bettac.

Tracie Lynn Combs Janzen

Tracie Lynn Combs Janzen, 47, of Shelby, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 following an extended illness.

Tracie was born September 13, 1962 in Marshall, Indiana to Franklin Devon and Bess Fay (Spencer) Combs. She proudly served her country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as an E4. Tracie volunteered at the food pantry, helped with handicapped children, and used to do benefits for others. She loved her kids and grandchildren and was very proud of all of their accomplishments.

She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Nicole Janzen-Hope, serving in the military and stationed in California, Jodi Rochelle Endicott of South Carolina, and Joshua Wayne Endicott of Plymouth; two step-children, Jenny Elizabeth Hall of Shelby and Jason Endicott of Mansfield; one granddaughter, Rachel Skii Janzen of Plymouth; six step-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Robert Combs of Shelby, Franklin D. Combs of Plymouth, Juanita "Nita Jo" Beverly of Willard, Angela Kaye Siesel of Attica, and Michael Combs of Plymouth

Along with her parents and grandparents, Tracie was proceeded in death by one son, Jimmy Dean Janzen; and one brother, Charles Lazar.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD., 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield, with military honors performed by Richland Co. Joint Veteran Burial Detail. Burial will be at a later date in Mansfield Cemetery.

 

 

 

Kevin Edward McCambridge

Kevin Edward McCambridge, 51, of Nova, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 5, 2010.

Kevin was born December 1, 1958 in Boise, Ireland to Paul and Helene (Gilbert) McCambridge. He was a 1976 graduate of Mansfield Senior High and had worked as a Metal Fabricator. Kevin loved sports cars and NASCAR races and was very active with AA for many years.

He is survived by one daughter, Amber McCambridge of Shelby; one grandchild on the way; his mother, Helene McCambridge of Mansfield; three sisters, Maureen Love of Bucyrus, Kathleen McCambridge of Florida, and Patti Burkey of Wooster; and his girlfriend, Carol.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father.

The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Minister James Marshall officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Werner-Gompf Funeral Services to help cover the funeral expenses.

 

 

Peter J. Stancato

Peter J. Stancato, 64, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2010, and Liberty Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness.

Peter was born on May 5, 1946 in Mansfield, to Joseph and Helen Kunz Stancato. He graduated from Madison High School in 1965. He had a passion for trains and would sit for hours at train yards watching the trains go by. He married Judith Barber on January 1, 1995, in Las Vegas, and of course, they got to Las Vegas by train. He belonged to a train club for many years. Peter also had a passion for music, and for many years enjoyed singing in the barbershop quartet. He also enjoyed listening to country music and classic rock. He was also known for being a prankster, and loved to "share" his sense of humor with others.

Along with his wife, is survived by his children, Joseph (Cortney), Janice (Scott), and Amanda, two step-children, Arlene (Jeff), and Diane (Jerry); seven grandchildren, Sebrina, Sierra, Brett Michael, Taylor, Ryan, Amber and Kevin; three step-grandchildren, Tim, Derrick, and Alicia; one great-grandchild, Aiden, and his mother-in-law Jane Crum.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

 

 

George W. Karbula

George W. Karbula, 79, of Mansfield, passed away at his residence Sunday, June 27, 2010, after a brief illness.

George was born June 15, 1931 in Mansfield to Joseph and Elizabeth (Mohler) Karbula. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 25, 1955 he married his sweetheart, Mary Ann Lyons, with whom he shared his life until her death on August 7, 2007. He retired from General Motors on October 1, 1998, after 31 years of employment. George enjoyed hunting, camping in Coshocton, and fishing, especially with his wife at the Huron River for White Bass. He was known as the handyman for the neighborhood, was a "Jack of all trades", as well as a "master of all trades", and there was nothing he could not do.

He is survived by two sons, Steve Karbula of Mansfield and Tom Karbula of Crestline; one daughter, Kim Yeager of Shelby; two sisters, Catherine "Kitty" Mangan and Ruth of Florida; three grandchildren, Tom Karbula, Jr., Danielle (Chuck) Downs, and William Daniel Yeager; and one great-grandchild on the way.

Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and 13 siblings.

Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral service will be at 12 noon Friday, July 2, 2010 with calling hours one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakgrove Cemetery.

Derrick Michael Heichelbech

Derrick Michael Heichelbech, 29, of Perrysville, passed away Friday, June 25, 2010.

Derrick was born December 11, 1980 in Mansfield to Michael and Nancy (Taylor) Heichelbech. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shelby, enjoyed working on computers, and loved to play music on the guitar.

He is survived by his father, Michael Heichelbech of Shelby; his mother, Nancy Taylor of Tybee Island, Georgia; one step-sister, Sidnee Marie Heichelbech of Ashland; paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Harold and Sally Heichelbech of Brevard, South Carolina; and paternal grandmother, Mary Heichelbech, of Shelby.

Derrick was preceded in death by one brother, Blake Heichelbech; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Taylor.

Michael "Mike" W. Arbutina

Michael "Mike" W. Arbutina, 62, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010, following a brief illness.

Mike was born July 27, 1947 in Mansfield to Paul and Mary (Kline) Arbutina. He married his high school sweetheart, Maria "Charlene" Arbutina on June 23, 1968. He was a graduate of Ohio State University, taught math at Ontario High School for one year, and had retired from General Motors after being employed for 43 ½ years. Mike loved his family, especially his two granddaughters. He also loved to spend time at home with remodeling projects, working his vegetable gardens, and always creating new flower beds. Mike was a member of Mansfield Baptist Temple, where he had served in the bus ministry as well as a Sunday School Teacher, for well over 30 years.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Charlene; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Stephanie Arbutina; his two adorable granddaughters, Ava Rayne and Addison Jade Arbutina; and his three nieces, Debbie, Mary and Brenda.

Along with his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Karen First.

Beverly I. Guardiola

Beverly I. Guardiola, 68, passed away at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital on Friday, June 18, 2010, following a lengthy illness.

Beverly was born November 9, 1941 in East Cleveland, Ohio to Carl and Margaret (Lindsay) Ferguson. She was a Teacher’s Aide for many years and actively participated in her children’s lives at school. She enjoyed painting by numbers, crossword puzzels, and reading. She was known for her excellent cooking skills, however everyone will best remember Beverly as "MOM". She was not only mother to her children, she was mother to the neighborhood kids, and adopted them as her own. Her generous heart and sweet spirit will never be forgotten.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Guadalupe Guardiola, to whom she was wed on June 5, 1963; her son Devin Guardiola of Mansfield; her daughter Julie Chavez of Mansfield; five grandchildren, Troy Anthony Guardiola, Alicia Guardiola, Alexis Konves, Santana Konves, and Joie Rose; and one brother, Dean (Jenny) Ferguson of Salem.

Along with her parents, Beverly was preceded in death by one son, Troy Guardiola; and one brother, Vernon Ferguson.

Tony Douglas Surber

Tony Douglas Surber, 46, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010 at OSU Medical Center in Columbus following an extended illness.

Tony was born May 29, 1964 in Butler to Douglas W. and Betty J. (Crose) Surber. He was and avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping, loved motorcycles, enjoyed music, and had a very big heart.

He is survived by one daughter, Kyra Carroll; his parents; one brother, Greg Surber and fiancé, Felicia Robson; special friend, Karen Pena; and close cousins, Brian Horsley and Tammi (Horsley) Fultz.

Tony was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Michael David Thompson, Sr.

Michael David Thompson, Sr., 59, of Mansfield, passed away Monday, June 14, 2010 following a brief illness.

Michael was born August 21, 1950 in Mansfield to William Henry, Jr. and Ocie Hazel (Ray) Thompson. He served his country in the U.S. Army during Viet Nam. He was a member of VFW Post 3494, Amvets Post 26, and Eagles #36 and enjoyed camping, fishing, working on computers, playing and listening to Bluegrass Music, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by two children, Michael (Denise) Thompson, Jr. of New London and Tonya Coleman of Mansfield; special friend, Peggy Fliger; four grandchildren, Kailee Thompson, Amber Thompson, David and Nathaniel Coleman; father and step-mother, William Henry and Joyce Thompson, Jr. of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Pat Wilson of Florida; step-brother, Jeff (Tracy) Thompson, of Fredericktown; step-sister, Theresa (Rod) Ewers of Fredericktown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Thompson on December 5, 2007; brother, Jack Thompson; and mother and step-father, Ocie and Louis Nation.

Larry Dean Carr

Larry Dean Carr, 64, of Bellville, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010 at home following a lengthy illness.

Larry was born on October 14, 1945, to Dale and Esther Seitz Carr in Worthington Twp., Ohio. On March 13, 1965, he married his sweetheart, Sharon Miller. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting. He was also a very hard worker, provided for his family, loved his family and friends, and he will be missed by all.

Along with his wife, Larry is survived by his children, Larry A. Carr of Mansfield, Angela K. Krajewski of Michigan, Audra A. Dingus of Bellville, and Chad E. Carr of Butler; four brothers, Rexford Stull of Butler, Richard Carr and Paul Carr both of Bellville, and Keith Carr of Butler; one sister, Margaret Richardson of Bainbridge; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant siblings.

Private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donald W. "Chief" Hall, Sr.

                          

Donald W. "Chief" Hall, Sr., 89, entered eternal life Monday, June 7, 2010 at Crystal Care, Mansfield.

Donald was born January 2, 1921 in Mansfield to Orville and Faye Morris Hall. As the "baby in the family", he was spoiled with love by his two sisters who adored him and his father, who always had Don at his side fishing.

A member of the "selfless" generation, Don served his country’s call in the Army as a medic during WWII, where he suffered hearing loss from a bomb explosion, but he never wavered in his affection for his country. He was proud of his time in the military where he served others and fought for freedom’s cause. He was proud of all the veterans that have served.

His family will miss his keen sense of humor and his loving, sharing ways. He enjoyed good natured teasing as well as a good joke. Don had a twinkle in his eye and a unique little laugh in his voice. He loved dancing to the sounds of the Big Bands and also listening to his favorite country music. Even in his "golden" years, Don was young at heart and enjoyed every moment life offered him. He had been a Mason and a member of the American Legion.

Don was well traveled having visited most of the U.S. and parts of Europe with his first wife Helen. One of this most favorite destinations was the lights, sounds, buffets and nickel machines of Las Vegas. He was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High and retired from The Westinghouse where he worked on several product lines during his long tenure there. Don had a sound work ethic on the job and also in caring for his home. He liked puttering in the flower beds and planting and eating vegetables from the garden.

He is survived by his second wife, Eileen C. Burns-Hall; two sons, Donald W. "Jim" (Betty) Hall, Jr. of Bullhead City, Arizona and Robert Hall of Colorado; two step-daughters, Carol (Ron) Kilgore of Lucas and Connie Zappone of Mansfield; one grandson, Ryan Hall; two granddaughters, Dawn (Casey) Warren and Amy (Scott) Gonzales; three step-grandchildren, Tiffany Zappone (Bobbi Curvin), Crissy (Aaron) Johnston-Williams, and Zach Zappone; four great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Hall Frasher; special niece, Patty (Dave) VanDine, who was a part of Don’s support system; numerous other nephews and nieces; and the family cat, "Maui" and little dog, "Sparky", who will miss snuggling on his lap.

Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen James Hall, one sister, Gaynell Hall Alexander, and his beloved dog, "Lady".

Gerald E. Thompson

Gerald E. Thompson, 83 went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 31, 2010, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a long illness.

Gerald was born on April 25, 1927, in Springfield, Ohio to Clyde and Nellie Ellis Thompson. After coming to Mansfield in 1947 to look for work, he found employment at Barnes Manufacturing, where he worked for 9 years. He then was employed at Sears in the old downtown store, as well as at the Richland Mall for 33 years, and retired in 1989. Gerald was a lifetime member of Mansfield Baptist Temple, where over the years he had served as deacon, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. He was an avid fisherman and loved to fish for perch on Lake Erie in the fall. He also enjoyed raising a large garden and which he would proudly share with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilma Dilley Thompson; two sons, Harlan (Joann) Thompson and Laverne (Patty) Thompson, all of Mansfield; five grandchildren, Heather (Jonathan) Marks of Atlanta, GA, Greg Thompson of Springfield, Ohio, Stephanie Thompson of Mansfield, Ashley (Brian) White of Galion, and Jennifer Thompson of Mansfield; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Ken) Miller of Georgetown, Ohio; and one brother-in-law, Larry Walters of Columbus, Ohio.

Along with his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Donald Thompson, and one sister, Mona Lee Walters.

Florence Eilen Taylor Zickefoose

Florence Eilen Taylor Zickefoose, 89, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Crystal Care Center following an extended illness.

Florence was born July 23, 1920 in Fredericktown to Clarence B. And Ada Pearl (Norris) Taylor. She enjoyed upholstering and had owned her own upholstery shop for years. Florence enjoyed driving around in the country, playing Bingo, and attending church at Crystal Care.

She is survived by four sons, Melvin Zickefoose, Jr., David Zickefoose, Richard Cantlebarry, and William Cantlebarry all of Mansfield; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond Taylor, Richard Taylor, and Donald Taylor all of Mansfield; two sisters, Ruth Ann Schonstraw of Columbus and Norma Jean Cole of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Zickefoose, Sr.; her first husband, William T. Cantlebarry; one daughter, Josephine Thompson; and two sisters, Edna Burns and Betty Lou Matheney.

Doris Jean Walters

Doris Jean Walters, 76, of Galion, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness.

Doris was born September 11, 1933 in Grahn, Kentucky to Arville and Alma (Kiser) Binion. She was the former owner of Little Jean’s Place, affectionately known as "Aunt Jean", a member of VFW Post 3494 Auxiliary, enjoyed horses and gardening, was an animal lover, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Ken and Margaret Holstine of Mansfield, Sherry Powers and companion, Jim Broughton also of Mansfield, and Randy Walters and companion, Stacy Graham of Galion; seven grandchildren, Monica Holstine, Brittany Harris, Eugene Holstine, Aaron Broughton, Lyndsey Rhoades, Jordan Walters, and Haley Walters; four great grandchildren, Mason, Joseph, Taylor, and Paige Holstine; one step grandson, James R. Broughton; three step great grandchildren, Sierra, Yasmyne, and Christian Broughton; one sister, Wanda "Spanky"; two half sisters, Ruth of Buckeye Lake and Suzie of Newark; two step siblings, James Lamp of Buckeye Lake and Virginia and Roger DeWitt of Newark.

Along with her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Lindy E. Walters; one step-mother, Madeline Lamp Binion; two brothers, Herbert Binion and Ricky Binion; and one sister, Katherine Thompson.

Reverend M. Kenneth Rose & Annie Waldschmidt Rose

Reverend M. Kenneth Rose, 78, and his wife, Annie Waldschmidt Rose, 75, went home to be with the Lord together unexpectedly on Monday, May 17, 2010 at their residence in Mansfield.

Kenneth was born February 4, 1932 in Emerson, Kentucky. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, had retired from Armco in 1983, was a pastor for 40 years of numerous Freewill Baptist Churches, enjoyed hunting, especially bear hunting, fishing, and camping.

Annie was born April 20, 1935 in Wiesbaden, Germany to Arbeiter Karl and Frieda Johanna (Minna) Waldschmidt. She was an excellent mother, grandmother, cook and baker, who enjoyed canning and sewing, and was proud of her German heritage.

Together they attended Taylortown Community Church, loved to spend time with their family, and was all they could be for them.

Kenneth and Annie are survived by four children, Michael E. (Joyce) Rose of Mansfield, James K. (Patricia) Rose of Pickerington, David E. (Kathy) of Mansfield, and Christa R. (Bart) Lawhorn of San Diego, California; fifteen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

Kenneth is also survived by one brother, Walter Rose of Seattle, Washington; two sisters, Doris Henderson of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and Francis "Fannie" Stamper of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Everett Rose.

Annie is also survived by twelve brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three infant siblings.
